About the Client:
Hosted by the City of Baton Rouge and the Office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome, MLK Holiday BR is an annual event series celebrating the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King through “a day on, not a day off.” By partnering with various organizations and corporations, MLK Holiday BR is a launch pad for year-round community conversation, engagement, and revitalization. On the national holiday itself, diverse individuals from across Baton Rouge unite around three key themes: literacy, youth empowerment, and equity and justice.
About the Project:
This year, the City of Baton Rouge enlisted a grant process where local organizations could apply for funding to support their community service and revitalization activities during MLK weekend. Hosting a city-wide volunteer day is a great undertaking that comes with organizational challenges. Our team worked with the city to ensure the initiatives, spanning from community clean-ups to mentorship programs, received dedicated support before, during and after each service project.
Utilizing the volunteer management platform, GivePulse, we created individual event pages for each grant-approved organization. GivePulse allowed us to facilitate seamless volunteer scheduling, collect contact information for future engagement, and enable organizations to track their overall impact. Our involvement extended to acting as a liaison between the City and each organization, hosting GivePulse instruction forums, on-site management, and creating internal tracking systems for reporting impact.
During MLK Holiday BR 2024, approximately $120,000 in grant funds were distributed, supporting 14 community events. A total of 628 volunteers came together, contributing over 2,500 volunteer hours to make a lasting impact on Baton Rouge and lay the groundwork for future community improvements.
